Time to finalise negotiations? 28 July Post EBA Team

D.Barker talks to us like he's a representative from the workers,"It is clear from staff feedback that people do not want to see more debate" he writes. Does he forget the Union has 30 000 workers paying its salery.

Also "we do not propose to go over the detailed issues." and nor should he!
What were we thinking, he's Post's Chief negotiator.

Seriously though, can you believe the contempt in which they treat us, I'll bet Post EBA Team get a tidy sum for not going over detailed issues.

I think Post employees deserve a Post Negotiating Team that IS dedicated to going over detailed issues and working to nut all this out, so we (the workers) can get our increases sooner.

And now they want to rush it through before a near record profit is anounced in September.

Oh yeah and workers will get thier $400 bonus ($220 after tax) around about 22 March 2006
SUBJECT TO achieving service performance of at least 94% in each state from Date of Certification and maintaining it until 31st December 2005.

The payment of this bonus will be subject to specific eligibility criteria.

"We have gone as far as we can go in relation to the union agenda. It is now time for the union to decide whether it is prepared to enter into an agreement on such terms."

Sounds like Post has called an end to negotiations to me.

Pay Rises

So if Eba6 is agreed now, it will be certified in September. The first pay increase of 2.5% will be provided from the first pay period commencing on or after Certification.
Then 6 months later in March 2005 1.5%.
Then in October 2005 you get 2%.
In May 2006 a further 2%.
And finally 2% in Decamber 2006.

I hope we don't then get another drawn out EBA!

And how much of an increase did the Managing Director recieve since 1988?
only 252.7% But, he does pay a lot in tax, his annual salary is $1 870 001!

Average Exec Salary from 1988 got a 91.2% increase taking them to $206 165.
I can't remember the salary of a Postal Delivery Officer but I think it's closer to $35 000.

So yeah I think we (the actual workers) deserve more that a piddling 8 or 10 %.

Post is always saying that its people are its biggest asset and openly portray itself as an organisation that values the work performed by its various staff.
Post has many different fund raising and community based events on its yearly calendar, and these events are supported very strongly by Post employees.
The thing is these very same employees are among the people who felt the need to take industrial action.
Most of us did not want to take industrial action but felt the need to, as we saw negotiations break down between Post and Cepu.
The conflicting information that was given to us made it very hard to decide what action if any was necessary.
It caused a lot of internal torment, I have been told by several people.
My point is this, we all expect this sort of contradictory information from politicians but we don’t expect and should not have this level of uncertainty and confusion within the workplace.
This is nothing new to Aust Post it happens all the time, but has been highlighted by recent EBA6 negotiation tactics.
These tactics have led to a fair amount of anxiety and stress within the workforce and is totally unnecessary and not in line with the message Post regularly puts out in its bulletins.
How do you feel?
